Introduction
When a radio transmission system is installed, people who
are hearing impaired can use a radio receiver with neck loop
or stethofork headphone to hear sound. The radio microphone
transmits an FM (Frequency Modulation) radio carrier signal
up to 25 metres. A direct copy of the audio signal reaching
the microphone is picked up by the radio receiver (stethofork
headphone or neck loop type) and the signal is converted back
to sound for the wearer to hear. The compact, wireless radio
microphone/transmitter provides enhanced sound level and clarity,
near or far away from the user. Users can focus on the sounds
they want to hear by selecting their desired mode of hearing
- whether the zoom setting for focused hearing and one-to-one
conversations or the omni-directional setting for group discussions
and social gatherings.
The microphone/transmitter can be held in the hand and pointed
directly at the desired sound source; placed on a suitable
surface in close proximity to the source up to 25 metres away;
or worn by a speaker moving about the house, or in lecture
and classroom situations.
It can also be connected directly to a TV, stereo, VCR/DVD/CD
player, or computer, for enhanced hearing enjoyment.
If a radio system is not present people who are hearing impaired
have to use the hearing aid set to the 'M' position. The microphone
in the hearing aid picks up sound from all directions; close
sound is amplified more than a distant sound. If a noise is
made i.e. a chair is moved or perhaps someone close to them
speaks they will be unable to hear the main speaker.
